The Void of Expansion is Belgian catharsis-inducing soniscapes-builder Dirk Serries and and Swedish drummer Tomas Järmyr. Järmyr is known for his eclectic drumming style, often fusing jazz improv with syncopated and odd time signatures, and for his ever-growing sound palette including unconventional sounds. Dirk Serries has never shied away from leaps of faith or experimentation, and is renowned for his uncompromising yet elegant approach to composition, which spans frrom the pure bliss to the free improvisation.

The duo's newest album "Escaper" falls nicely in between these two "sonic personas" exploring dark ambient via four expansive post-rock "suites" blending classic post-rock crescendoes with jazz drumming, syncopated rhythms and drone droolings. The result is wildly eclectic, yet organic combination of sounds with endless mood possibilities. Serries’ mature and hypnotizing style is forced towards a less idiomatic area by the immensely diverse playing of the drummer, who despite an obvious knack for tonal control also excels in free form energy
